Philmont hires 1,100+ summer staff and 80+ year-round staff in departments focused in outdoor adventure skills/education, conservation, medical services, food service, retail, museums, ranching/farming, equestrian/livestock programs, media, and many other support roles. Paid internship opportunities are available for those still working through their educational career. The majority of positions coincide with the summer season, from late May through mid-August. Base salaries begin at $1,225/mo or higher with room & board included.

Each summer, more than 20,000 Scouts travel from all corners of the US to participate in the rich backcountry and training opportunities available at Philmont Scout Ranch. 35 staffed backcountry camps scattered throughout the 140,171-acre facility provide assorted outdoor adventure programs. Since 1939, Philmont programs have attracted more than 1 million participants.

The Philmont Staff is a diverse group of people from all around the United States coming together to “Deliver Wilderness Adventures That Last a Lifetime!”.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship, pass a background check, and be willing to become a member of the Boy Scouts of America while employed (though previous Scouting experience is not required). Applicants available for the entirety of the summer season are given preference.

Anyone interested in working at Philmont Scout Ranch is encouraged to apply. More detailed information, job descriptions, and our online application can be found here: https://www.philmontscoutranch.org/jobs/jobdescriptions/

Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.
