Send resumes and cover letter. Resume format of your choice. In the brief cover letter highlight:
- Who you are? What your career interest is? What you want from an internship?
- Which potential assignments intrigue and why? What skills would you like to develop?
- What skills or experience do you have that could be leveraged in an assignment for PowerSkills?
What to expect? The reality of the experience.
- We will jointly decide upon the assignments for the internship. Interns will not be swamped with 5-6 different assignments. Rather, interns will complete 1-2 assignments that are comprehensive. They will bring those assignments (projects or products) to full fruition so that they understand how to manage a project from start to finish.
- Assignments will be meaningful to PowerSkills and to the intern. The intern will be challenged by the assignments to stretch their skills, learn and apply new skills which will benefit their career by adding to their capabilities and resume.
- Interns will produce actual products that they can point to as examples, proof of capability, and contribution and benefits that they added to a company.
- I am a professional coach, advisor and supervisor. Interns can expect to receive a little bit of all three practices. Supervision of their work (assignments, deliverables, accountability); advising about career insights (presenting oneself in resumes and interviews), and coaching or feedback (about professionalism that will help our partnership and also help the student in future roles).
- The internship will be more structured and formalized in the first 3-4 weeks with communication, check ins, direction, and guidance) and become less structured, more flexible, as the internship proceeds, and the intern demonstrates follow through.
- Responsivity to communications is really important and demonstrates professionalism.
- At the beginning and end of each day, we are all human. Many things happen each day. It is expected that adjustments may be necessary. It’s also expected that each party acts incredibly professionally, very maturely, reasonably and empathetically.
