Joseph is a Plant Modifications Responsible Engineer for AREVA, a multinational energy company specializing in nuclear power. Joeseph’s key responsibility is to coordinate his company’s engineer corp to execute the repair or replacement of nuclear reactor parts.

>> My name is Joe Devoe [assumed spelling]. I am a responsible engineer for the plant modifications group at Areva. You know, any time a nuclear power plant has something that needs to be changed, replacement and repair and upgrade, that kind of thing, they'll contract a company like us to do it. And there'll be calculations that need to be revised or created, drawings updated, et cetera. You know, I will coordinate with our engineering resources to get that work done. And they usually have some vehicle to get it delivered, reviewed and approved. And that's usually called a Design Change Package. So I will be the one pulling that design change package, overseeing all the work that's being done and ultimately wrapping it up. Right now I'm working on the steam generators at Watts Bar plant in Tennessee. And there are four steam generators that we're replacing. That's one of the most important components in a nuclear power plant, second to the reactor. We are taking them out. What I'm in charge of is all of the impacts of the new steam generator. So I'm looking at all the other systems that are in there and what kind of impacts they have. And I also did a flex project, which is essentially the Fukushima disaster, everything that we learned from that, they've implemented this program in the United States called FLEX. And it's flexible alternatives to not have what happened there happen here. So if there were any kind of natural disaster that was beyond what the plant was built for, we would identify it earlier, have the means to mitigate it. So I've done something like that, which is a new kind of system that we've incorporated into the plant that they never had before. And then, of course, there's component replacements, exchange, that kind of thing. It's rigorous. You know, any time that you have a major change that has a lot of interfaces with other systems and components, that's that many more people that need to look at it, review it and approve it. There's that much more detail. You know, because any time that you change something, there's always a downstream impact somewhere and you need to find them before.
