Senior Manager of Regulatory Compliance, Verizon Communications

My name is Evonia Bennett. I am a senior manager at Verizon Communications. I am in Regulatory Compliance and what that department handles is making sure that we are compliant with the cities, state, and local governments, as well as the Federal Government. I manage a staff of three to five individuals, it just depends on where we are at any given point of the year. What I do is I make sure that each of my managers or analysts or specialists are doing what they need to do. We also manage a database so I have to make sure that the database is collecting the information properly. Since my department is a part of our corporate techs department, I have to make sure that we are compliant with SAC's compliance. We have to analyze what's going on in the marketplace and we also get direction from the FCC directly as to what we can collect. I'm a part of a team that we do it on a quarterly basis and we do various analyses to make sure that we are within the realm that the Federal Government sets for us to do and then I collect the data and put forth that fee to be implemented into our billing systems and then it ultimately gets sent out to our customers. Any company, you have ebbs and flows of when you're extremely busy like the third quarter into the fourth quarter, you're trying to get end of year closed down, you're trying to complete projects, you're trying to... Like for the schools and libraries program that I mentioned, they have set the end of October as to when you can finish collecting and remitting for the previous school year because it's not a traditional calendar, it's like July to June. October is the cutoff date so a lot of schools are trying to get their data in at that particular point in time so that they can collect the money that they need and it has to run through our office before it can be submitted.
