Office of Neighborhood Services Overview
The City of Pittsburgh’s Office of Neighborhood Services:
- Leads community engagement and customer service on behalf of city departments in all 90 neighborhoods.
- Is the home of the 311 Response Center, processing more than 100,000 service requests annually.
- Coordinates between residents and city departments on questions and concerns related to existing 311 service requests.
- Leads the city’s public engagement on infrastructure projects such as bridge repairs, traffic calming, parks and recreation upgrades, and other capital projects.
- Leads the city’s digital engagement program, including managing the EngagePGH platform and producing the bi-weekly resident e-newsletter.
- Attends and gives updates from the Mayor’s Office at monthly community meetings hosted by Registered Community Organizations (RCOs) and other community-based organizations.
- Leads the Mayor’s Office City in the Streets initiative.
- Administers the Snow Angels and Love Your Block volunteer initiatives.
- Administers the City Cuts lawn care program for low-income seniors and residents with disabilities.
The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services seeks an intern to help build capacity and administer daily business and fiscal tasks that support the team’s operations of the City of Pittsburgh City Cuts program. The ideal candidate will be energized to gain experience in the intersections between local government and its surrounding small business ecosystem and will be responsible for tasks related to contract management, data entry, and invoicing for the City’s City Cuts vendors.
Department: Mayor’s Office – Office of Neighborhood Services
Salary: $15.00 per hour
- WORK EXPERIENCE: None required for this position.
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student and taking classes in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate program; OR have graduated within the last 12 months. Must have a minimum G.P.A of 3.0.
POSITION DUTIES
Reporting to the Engagement Manager and Neighborhood Engagement Coordinator, the intern will perform the following duties, and will work in accordance with the policies and goals established by the Mayor’s Office:
- Maintains financial records utilizing accounting and other financial systems and software (i.e. J.D.E.,Microsoft, Excel, Access, etc.).
- Assist with tracking and maintaining regular communications with City Cuts vendors.
- Oversees weekly invoicing activities throughout the invoicing lifecycle to ensure all vendors are in compliance with city invoicing requirements and are receiving timely payments for services rendered to City Cuts program participants.
- Maintains accurate data records related to City Cuts vendors services rendered and invoicing.
- Records, plans, assigns, processes, and verifies payments for Department’s fiscal transactions.
- Tracks weekly City Cuts invoices against Neighborhood Services 2024 City Cuts budget.
- Prepares financial statements, reports, and tabulations; prepares special reports in connection with fiscal records as assigned or required.
- Runs reports related to City Cuts services rendered and relevant invoicing as needed.
