DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This is training work used to develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Civil Engineer Trainee will receive rotational assignments and participate in progress review meetings. The employee in this position will work with professional engineers in a variety of problem-solving situations.
As part of the training, this employee may assist in some of the following duties: performing surveys for highways and bridges in a transportation engineering environment; performing bridge design duties and bridge safety inspections; preparing bridge plans, highway plans, and geotechnical reports; preparing highway and bridge construction projects; and performing maintenance and traffic engineering duties in the district and/or county maintenance organizations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: With supervisory approval, you may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Telework eligibility will be limited during the probationary period.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within nine months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position also requires possession of a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
